Glen James Allen

Composer and Writer of Musical Theatre

Glen James Allen

Composer and Librettist of Musical Theatre

Glen is a Composer, Lyricist and Book Writer of Musical Theatre writing a number of Musicals ready for stage productions in the West End, Broadway and around the World.

He has been a member of Mercury Musical Developments in London for over two years. Glen has submitted work on a regular basis for consideration to Mercury Musical Developments projects, Perfect Pitch as well as the DreamWorks ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshops in Los Angeles, California. He hopes to submit work to Perfect Pitch, New York Workshops and the New York City Musical Theatre Festival in the near future.

Glen has been writing for Musical Theatre since attending both College and University. He submitted 5 songs from ‘Catwalk’ - A NEW Musical as final year coursework for his Degree in Popular Music with Music Technology. It was at University where Glen was given written advice and guidance by Cameron Mackintosh.

After seeing both Miss Saigon and Rent in London, Glen felt compelled to write for Musical Theatre. He aims to write shows that can be appreciated by all audiences and feels he has a natural ability to write for Musical Theatre for which he has much passion. He has seen many Musicals in London that have helped to develop his writing, by considering overall staging, lighting, character development and being able to imagine visually the songs and shows on stage whilst writing them.

Unfortunately, he had Writer’s block for many years between 2002 and 2012, but has since found that he is able to write Music and Lyrics instantly for characters, situations and scenes. Once he has the initial thoughts of the characters in mind he then writes and rewrites the lyric to ensure that they develop the characters personality, intentions, to develop the plot and perfects the Shows overall libretto. Over the years his libretto has developed from being “pop song” in style, to actually telling the story, advancing the plot and allowing the audiences a deeper understanding of the characters and the situations.

Glen is currently completing his musicals ‘Catwalk’, ‘California’ and ‘Amour à Paris’ (Working Title). Additionally, He has planned to complete his Historical Rock/Pop Operas ‘A.B.’ (based on King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn), “Elizabeth” (based on the life and times of Elizabeth I) and ‘James I’ (based on the life and times of James I) over the next few years.

He has shelved plans for a musical that he planned to be a radical reworking of the Robin Hood legend entitled ‘Sherwood’. Plans also for ‘Ibiza Beach Party’ - A NEW Musical (Working Title) have also been shelved.

Glen has also been a critic for two Musical Theatre magazines.

Glen is open to collaboration on new Musicals by other writers and hopes to release Concept Cast Albums of his Musicals soon on iTunes.
